Day Services

FalCare has 2 Day Centres which offer activities, care and support for people with a learning disability.

The day Centres are open weekdays, 9am to 4pm.

We offer full or half day visits.

You will be supported by us to meet your own individual needs. We offer 1-1 support or group support, usually at a ratio of 1-4, or you can bring your own trained support with you.

Both centres have fully accessible personal care facilities.

Transport

FalCare has 4 wheelchair accessible vehicles and a car.

We offer a transport service to pick you up in the morning and take you home at the end of your visit.

The vehicles are used to transport you to community activities, for trips out and accessing local amenities.

Trelowenak

Trelowenak is a 2-storey building which comprises of a large communal area and kitchen - which is used for all manner of activities from art workshops to cookery.

There is a separate lounge area with sofas for relaxation and a sensory room. Upstairs is a relaxing room with a sofa and a pool table, along with our office space.

There is a large undercover veranda where activities can be undertaken in the fresh air, which offers shade from the sun and protection from the wind and rain. The veranda is edged by a flower garden with colourful plants and scented flowers to enhance your sensory needs.

The gardens are attended by you for you. To the rear of the building is an accessible patio area, also edged with a flower garden at varying heights for access. There is a summerhouse for activities and relaxation.

Trelowenak is situated close to Falmouth Town centre and within walking distance to Falmouth Seafront.

Being directly next to Kimberly Park means we can enjoy the gardens, fishpond and table tennis facilities whenever you want!

The Learning Zone

The Learning Zone is a 1 storey building, built in 2015 specifically for community use.

It comprises of a large open plan room with plenty of space for activities and a sensory area with lights, sounds and soft seating.

The second room is set out for ICT and table activities in a quieter area. There is a kitchenette for making drinks, heating meals and preparing cold meals and snacks.

Being situated on the grounds of Penryn Rugby club we have access to the outside sports fields to use for sports and games, walking and relaxing.

One of the favourite uses is for exploring water, using pistols and bubbles, and parachute games.

What will you do with us?

Here is a selection of activities enjoyed at our Day Centres

Arts and Crafts
You can enjoy a multitude of creative activities. Sessions are run diversely so everyone can join in with the activity. The sessions include, drawing, sewing, pottery, papier mache, and gloop to name a few. Some are individual activities and others are group focused. We will organise any art activity you would like to try, just ask! Not only are these sessions fun to take part in, they will help you to express yourself, while learning skills such as sharing, communicating and cause and effect understanding. Sports and Games
Here at FalCare we get involved in many sports and games, below is a selection of what you can enjoy…

Giant bowling – a very popular game, use the giant ball to knock over the giant skittles. Play against your friends or just enjoy on your own.

Table games – there are a vast range of table activities you can have a go at. Whether it is table rugby, jigsaw puzzles, board games, stacking games, dominoes, file folder activities, FalCare has something for you.

Parachute – so much fun with just one item!!

Place a variety of ‘treasures’ (anything you want) into a treasure box under the parachute. Make waves as if in a Sea Storm. Send divers to retrieve called out items one by one from the box.

Each player is given the name of a fruit such as pear, apple, or strawberry. When the facilitator calls out the name of a fruit, everyone with that fruit name changes places by running under the parachute. When Fruit Salad is called out, everyone must swap places with the players on the other side.

Start with all players holding the chute stretched out. Throw as many soft balls as you have onto the chute, the more the better! Holding the chute tightly, have children bounce the balls as quickly as they can off the parachute. As a variation we play this game in two teams. One side try to bounce the balls off the chute, while the other side works at keeping the balls on the chute!

Party games – are not just for parties!! They are a great way to get moving and have fun with your friends. Pass the parcel is so important for learning to turn take which enhances social awareness and communication skill, it also helps with fine and gross motor skills.

One of our favourites is Shark Island, a take on musical chairs, it gets the blood pumping, heightens a sense of your surroundings, and helps with following sequences, skills we all need…but in a fun way!

Wii fit – A well-used activity is the Wii consoles. Use them to keep fit, learn skills, and enjoy yourself. The bowing game is very popular at FalCare as well at the tennis and cooking games.

Pool Table – both centres have pool tables for you to enjoy with your friends. Our staff can help you to learn to play.
Awards and Certificates
At FalCare we believe in celebrating all achievements. We have a system for you to follow to go from Bronze to Platinum Achievements if you want to. This could involve trying something new, helping someone else or achieving a milestone.
Sensory
Both of FalCare’s day centres have a sensory area, fitted out with lights, music/sound, ‘touch and texture’ boxes, and sensory items to explore. FalCare understand the great importance of sensory fulfilment for a happy life. We have many activities to get the sensory senses going, such as sensory stories, light and dark, Tac-Pac and Intensive Interaction.
Days Out
Isn’t it nice to get out for the day!!, FalCare arranges days out for fun activities, we have been to the Zoo, Pendennis Castle to watch the jousting, beach trips, the Seal Sanctuary to name a few. If you want to go somewhere, just ask, we will endeavour to make it happen!

We also do outings spontaneously! If it is a nice day and you want to go out…. then we will. We often visit the Princess Pavilion on nice days, to explore the gardens, get some fresh air and have games on the lawn. Visits to the beach are a regular on our ‘lets get out’ days. Rock pooling, exploring the beach gardens, playing beach games or just relaxing with a picnic, FalCare takes full advantage of our amazing surroundings.
Cooking
Our Cooking Club runs fortnightly on a Friday at Trelowenak. You and your peers decide what to cook and go to the shop to buy the ingredients. You will then be supported to cook the meal you have chosen and enjoy eating it with your peers. FalCare also does baking activities throughout the week if that is the activity you and your friends want to do.
ICT
FalCare has a selection of technology to be explored and enjoyed. This includes Tablets, PCs, laptops, Wii’s, all of which can be connected to our large screens.
Community Groups
FalCare enjoys going out into the community and taking part in other activities. We attend Fit 2 Wiggle each week where an inclusive group of people, lead by some wonderfully energetic people, use music and dance to keep fit and raise spirits, see their videos here, we all have a smashing time and meet other fun people!
Dance
As well as going to community groups, FalCare enjoys dancing at any opportunity, this may spontaneous or planned. You can lead a dance and we will all follow you.
Marital Arts
We run weekly martial arts sessions that are very person centered.
Wet Wheels
During summer we partner with Wet Wheels so that you can access the sea in a safe, stimulating and rewarding way on board specially-built, fully-accessible powerboats
Makaton
Makaton is an essential communication tool for many people. Many of FalCare’s staff are trained in Makaton as well has having an onsite Makaton tutor. Sign and Sign is used as an activity to learn more so you can communicate with your peers.
Quieter Times
Sometimes you may just want to chill out and have some quiet time. FalCare has quieter rooms where you can relax or do an activity on your own, with a support worker or small group. We have comfy sofas, bean bags or tables and chairs.
